‘‘I work directly from nature and can often be seen drawing or painting in local parks, streets or along the towpath, with occasional trips further afield, notably the Highlands of Scotland. This gives a freshness and originality to my work. This I bring to my studio and develop more ambitious compositions: large diptychs, collections of smaller studies and interiors and still lives.

My process is to observe and record experiences directly from life, then develop ideas from that experience in the studio.

While I seek to capture the light and epic space in the landscape, my studio work recalls the experience, action and drama of a place or event through composition, colour, rhythm and image.

My paintings are accessible and simple; the compositions are complex and vibrant. This combination gives depth, richness and generosity to a prolific body of work.’’

Kimm studied Fine Art at Kingston Polytechnic and the Royal Academy Schools. He has always continued to paint, draw and exhibit his work in solo shows and public exhibitions .

He has taught in tertiary colleges and art schools. and helped develop and design playground equipment for primary schools.
